Hi, I'm Cathy Salmons, Creator of TangoFlow!® .

As a lifelong dancer--trained in ballet, jazz and modern dance, as well as bodywork, movement therapy and anatomy--I have always been a student of the many ways we can heal the heart, mind and spirit through expressive dance.

When I discovered Argentine Tango, I knew it would change my life: The movement vocabulary of Tango is so beautiful, so powerful, and so completely transforming, that it changed my body and my thinking about dance forever...

The more passionate I became, as a tango dancer, the more I was convinced that the movements and technical demands of tango could be used to bring strength, fitness, grace and flexibility to anyone, dancer or not! Already a dance teacher for many years, I began to observe, hone, borrow and create, and soon developed a series of tango-based exercises and combinations that pulled not only from tango, but also from the established pedagogy of ballet, modern and jazz dance, as well as "somatic" movement techniques.

From the moment I began to teach these classes, I saw the students not only getting stronger and more fit, but actually moving with more freedom, sensuality and confidence. They began to glide with cat-like sensuality...they were grounded, expressive, purposeful and balanced. I saw weight loss, but more important, inches lost: Bodies changed shape before my eyes!

My students who were also tango dancers looked different on the dance floor, too: I would see them at milongas, in the arms of different partners...they all suddenly looked more balanced, on their own axis; foot placement was changing, dissociation was happening, they were getting all the way around, in their turns...When I compared them to other beginners who had not been doing my exercise class, it was clear: My students were getting much better, much faster!

Since then, I have taken TangoFlow!® on the road! I now teach regularly throughout Vermont, and in Boston and Montreal...we're adding new locations all the time! And my plan for 2011 includes the first round of TangoFlow!® teacher trainings...watch this website for updates and locations!
